All About The Maker Space
Grace S. and Abrielle C.
The maker space is a room that was recently created in our school for
projects and S.T.E.M presentations. There are currently 2 maker spaces
in Village Elementary school.
The first thing you will see when you walk into the maker space, will be a
big white cabinet. On that cabinet there will be loads and loads of supplies
including paper cups and plates, wooden craft sticks ( large and small),
paint, etc. Those supplies are available to use with your.teacher’s permission.
In the room you will also see a green screen. In case you didn’t know what
the green screen is , it’s a green blanket like material. So you could insert a
picture on the green screen in the background. For example,if you are writing
an article about a tropical island you could insert a picture of palm trees or that
tropical island.
On the other side of the supplies shelf there will be a table. On the table there
is a 3D printer. This printer is for teacher use only. So for example if Mrs. Decker
needs to print out dice, she can draw a picture of a dice and then she will insert it
in the printer. It will stack up layers until it becomes a solid. But, it will take awhile
to process.
There is also flexible seating in the maker-space. There are 3 carpets in the room
that you can sit on if you are not comfortable sitting on a chair. There is also a futon,
green spiny chairs, a regular table you can sit ,and there is a tall table. As well, there
is a whiteboard you can use for projects.
The maker space is a great place in our school that you can use for big
projects, presentations, or even a place that helps you be creative.
