Taylor Elsworth-Dream Big
By: Makenna S.

Taylor Ellsworth is the best college softball player that
came from Georgetown High School.  She is getting
ready to start her 3rd season with The University of
Texas Longhorn softball team.  Taylor is an
OUTSTANDING catcher. Taylor is the best slugger
(slugger means a stupendous batter), and she can
smack the ball over the moon like a cow.  She has
had about 47 home runs in her career.  Taylor has
been to a couple of different states to play softball
like Oklahoma,  New York, California, and Arizona.  Because I know Taylor, she taught me the basics of pitching.
I personally know Taylor because my dad went
to highschool and college with Taylor’s Mom.
Taylor has one sister, Kylie, and she is a star
basketball player at Georgetown High School.

Here are a few questions I asked Taylor:

1.What is your batting average ?
Freshman year: .394
Sophomore year: .244
Fall of junior year: .384
2.What are all the positions you play and what is
your favorite, and Why ?
Positions I play: catcher Which is my favorite because I am
involved in every play. I have to have a special bond with my
pitchers as well as my coach. The better we work together the
more successful we can be. We are considered a battery because
we have to have each other to preform.
3. What does it feel to be a softball
player?
To be a softball player means being part of a bigger family. This game
is more than just yourself you have to learn to be there for others. You
learn you’re never alone. Being a softball player teaches you many life
lessons such as, hard work, dedication, communication, and many
more.
4. Explain,  how it feels to catch for a fast pitcher ?
At first it is hard because you have to anticipate where it will go, but the
long you catch and learn a pitchers tendencies the easier it gets.
5. How does it feel to catch for the Texas College Softball
Team?
It’s an awesome feeling being able to represent something so much larger than
yourself. When someone sees the Texas Longhorn logo they know exactly what
school it is. It’s an honor to be able to say I play softball for THE University of
Texas.
6. What is it like to be a student athlete?
Being a student athlete takes a lot of hard work. It consists of many long hours
not just on the field but in the classroom. Going from 6am weights straight to
class then right back to practice. At the end of the long days it’s a rewarding
feeling.
7. Do you have any information for younger girls that
want to play softball or college softball player when they
grow up to be like you ?
The advice I would give a young girl is to not be afraid to be great but to be
great you have to make mistakes. If you want to play college softball there is a
place for you, but nothing is just handed. Growing up my parents always said
that there is someone out there that is better than you and works harder than you.
So you must push yourself to be the best you can be, don’t give up!
