By: Sarah Crown

Two years ago, when I was 9 years old. I saw a video online of a girl making lip balm. I thought it was so cool so I showed my parents. The girls recipe went something like this...

  • Vaseline
  • Essential oils
  • Food dye

My mom thought the recipe was a little off but we did it anyway. It turned out okay, but I knew we could do better.
We researched how to make lip balm, and with the help of my dad we had our own recipe in no time.
First, we experimented… We ordered flat, round, plastic containers online and started working. We bought a big cube of beeswax from Michaels and grated it into a bowl. Then, we melted the beeswax and mixed in honey while it cooked. We also added in our secret ingredients. When it finished my mom poured in the hot mixture into the small containers. Then we put them in the fridge to harden. We tried three more times until we got it just right. Next, we tried it, and it was amazing! My dad set up a website: sarahsbeezy.com
We’re still working on more products, but we plan on making more bath items such as:
Beard balm, (a gel to put into a beard to make soft. My dad's idea) detangler, soap, and deodorant. My parents also ordered cylinder shaped containers instead of the flat ones to put the lip balm in. They were clear and had a little space near the bottom of the tube that we filled with lip balm. Most lip balm companies do not have that space filled. Which makes our containers have more product than other businesses.  I helped make a logo on my dad's computer, so he called a company who helped us make the labels. We bought a huge roll of the labels and put them on our containers.
After two years of hard work we are finally done. Besides the website we are ready to roll, and I hope you spare a few minutes to buy some
Beezy.

Mrs.Partida
Written by: Lily R. with assistance by: Sofia P.
                           and  Angelina R.

From the left: Sofia P., Mrs. Partida, Angel R., and Lily R.

About Mrs.Partida:
Mrs. Partida has recently moved from being a 4th grade math teacher to a math interventionist teacher and I would love to see how she likes her job being a math interventionist. So, we are doing an interview with her.
Interview:
US-How do like your job?
Mrs.Partida-I love my new job! I think what I like most is I get to work with a lot of different grade levels.
US-Would you like to be a teacher again?
Mrs.Partida-I miss teaching 4th grade and I miss being in the classroom but I am happy with my change!
Us-If you had to be a teacher again what grade would you teach?
Mrs.Partida-Oh that's a good one, I’d probably go back to 3rd or 4th grade.
US-If you had a different job what would it be?
Mrs.Partida-So, if I wasn’t a teacher, I would want to own my own flower shop and make bouquets and homecoming mums.
Us-Do you wish you had a class pet, If so what animal?
Mrs.Partida-I love not having to clean Hamilton's stinky cage, but I would love to bring my Bella here. Bella the beagle.
US- What grades do you tutor?
Mrs.Partida-I work with kinder-5th grade math, so all the grades and they all have something that is my favorite about them.
US-Who was/is your inspiration to be a teacher?
Mrs.Partida- So, I had lots of really good teachers growing up and I had some that were not so good and that always made me feel unwanted and not smart. So, I felt like I needed to prove (something to) them, but I always wanted to be a teacher. Like when I was little, I would set up my dolls and play school and I would have a list of names and call rollcall.
                      What we learned
We learned that Mrs. Partida loves her new job and that she does not have to clean Hamilton’s, the hamster, stinky cage, but she would love to bring her puppy Bella here.  She also always wanted to be a teacher and she learned a lot from the teachers she had - good and the bad.

How Much is Too Much This Christmas for the Business Fair!
By Emma E.
Kids start their set up for the Business Fair.  Emma E. on the left and Jackson M. on the left.

This Christmas is the most expensive time of the year. So, this is the big question. How much is too much for the Business Fair? The fair is to raise money for the fifth grade field trip.

Fifth graders are expected to make an item ,and give it a price, so they finally give it a name. Moms and Dads give their kids money to spend on Christmas items.  So, how much should kids have to spend?. The limit is $10, so is that too much?
Zackary O. and Evan P. plan to sell their items at the Business Fair.

Theatre club
By: Sarah Crown

During R.T.I for the last few weeks Aurelia and I have been working on the Theatre Club lesson plan for the first six weeks of club days. This includes getting a play from Mrs. Seamen, getting the costumes for that play, and having kids audition for the roles. With only one day a week to practice for the play we have to work quickly. On the first, week we explain what we are going to do in theatre club and hand out the audition forms. The second week is auditions. Aurelia and I decide what roles everyone will get with the help of Mrs. Brent (the counselor). On the third week, everybody will get their parts and we will begin rehearsals. Then, on the fourth week, rehearsals without the script. Next, On the fifth week, we put up the backdrops and everyone tries on the costumes. Finally, the sixth week is when we do dress rehearsals and do our performance. I hope you sign up for theatre club asap because of +all of our hard work putting it together.

Why  Putty  is  Better than Slime
By: Lavella D. & Emmy G.

          Slime                       Putty
                   File:Lapis lazuli, a complex mineral mixture.jpg - Wikimedia Commons
Putty is somewhat better than slime because some slime recipes
include borax and it can ruin your skin. Secondly, as you may have
heard from another document slime is full of glue! Glue is made
of natural gas and other raw materials found in nature, and
eventually we will run out of the natural materials. In addition,
store bought slime may have chemicals that aren't safe if you
decide to put it in your mouth.(don’t put in mouth!!)

                           Putty  recipe  without  glue
3/4 cup of cornstarch and cornflour
1/2 cup of of dish soap.
Add the cornstarch and cornflour to a bowl.
Add the dish soap to the cornstarch and cornflour, mix until it is well combined.
Add shaved pastel if you’re wanting some color.

Some of the uses of this amazing putty that we showed
you are that it can be used as stress relievers, fun stretchy
slime-like consistencies, and awesome presents for kids.  Why
is this thing so good and awesomely amazing? Well,I believe
that it is because people love the satisfying stretch of the jiggly
goodness.  But if you are like some people, than you will not
like sticky, slimy, jiggly, satisfying putty and you might not like
to go through the process of elimination just to find out that
the putty recipe that you choose does not turn out the way that
you expected. If that is happening to you constantly then stop,
get some help.
        Slime or Squishies
                   By-Lily R.
Do people prefer slime or squishies better? I am doing a paper on this because I love both slime and squishies and I would like to see what the people at school like better. These are two of the top craves. Slime is a sticky and gooey substance that kids all over the world play with. It is made mostly of glue. Squishies are like stress balls but in different forms like a sheep, fruit, panda, and ice cream. Then you squeeze them and they slowly come unsqueezed. Let's see which is more popular.

As you can see there were more slime votes then squishy votes and I personally like squishys more than slime. FUN FACT-I have 40 squishies. Thanks for reading my paper.

What team will make it to the
Super Bowl 52 !!?

BY Grant, Brian, Memphis, Jules, Harry

Grant, Brian, Memphis, Jules, and Harry made this article to see what team will make it to the Super Bowl.                                                File:2008 Emerald Bowl trophies.JPG - Wikimedia Commons

Grant: Guys, I think that the Vikings will go to the Superbowl. No doubt about it.

Brian: I have some confidence in the New England Patriots, not the Vikings.

Grant: Bro, there is no way that the Patriots are going to the Superbowl again. Vikings are going to the superbowl like I said.

Memphis: No, there's no way that the vikings are going to the Super Bowl nor the Saints. The Broncos will.

Julius: The Saints will make the Super Bowl because their running backs have been unstoppable, the 5th best passing offense, and they have a wonderful defense. They're ranked 12th, but I think they should be ranked higher.

Harry: I think the Eagles will make the Super Bowl because LeGarrette Blount, Alshon Jeffery, Carson Wentz, Jay Ajayi, Dorial Green-Beckham, Ronald MC Donald Darby, Nelson Agholor, and Zach Ertz. That roster is beast.

Grant: Harry are you serious? There is no way bro we have xavier rhodes and they might put Teddy BridgeWater back in and he is a beast. The Vikings running back Latavius Murray lastly Stefon Diggs, and one more person Kyle Rudolph, Case Keenum.

Grant: Well we don't know who is going to the SuperBowl, but good luck to all of the teams that we rooted for.

 What Is Student Council?
By, Kennedy S. & Sophie O.
Have you ever heard of Student Council at your school? Student Council is where you are a team and help out with the school and teachers.
If you have ever been in Student Council you would have to follow some rules like…
  • Get all passing grades
  • Be kind to everyone
  • Be SAFE, RESPECTFUL, And RESPONSIBLE!
We have been raising money by doing some fundraisers like…
-Hurricane Harvey Wristbands
All this money goes to animal shelters for when Hurricane Harvey hit.  Many  animals lost their homes, need food, toys, and ,shelter.

-Naked Turkey Contest
The Naked Turkey money goes to the Village Elementary Movie Night! Village Elementary Movie Night is where your parents drop you off at the school. The teachers let  you  choose from five movies. After the movie’s over, the students go outside, and then your parents pick you up. Also, you can wear your pj’s.

In addition, Village alumni high school students can  receive an academic scholarship.  To conclude, Village Elementary Student Council uses teamwork to achieve their goals!
