A Day in the Life of Hurricane Florence
                     By Izzy S.
September 14, 2018:
I turn on the t.v to watch the news and what was the topic of discussion? Hurricanes! Florence has been all over the news today, not the mom on the Brady Bunch, but Hurricane Florence.  Today the hurricane’s wind speed was about 70 mph, and the storm was moving towards land at about three miles per hour. North Carolina was somewhat prepared, because in 2016 they were hit by hurricane Matthew. The community had pitched in and built a brick two foot wall after Matthew hoping that wall will help them with a hurricane like Florence. In North and South Carolina the floods after the hurricane will be major and everything will be flooded because of all of the rain. All they can do is evacuate and wait.
Hurricane Florence is a category 4. The highest a hurricane can be is a category 5. A category 4 is usually  considered as an extreme hurricane. Not only that but, it is raining so much that so far there is about 16 inches of rain. At the end of this hurricane there is expected to be about 20 to 25 inches of rain. In addition, over 1 million homes and business are out of power in North Carolina. Almost 2,100 flights have been canceled through Saturday because of this hurricane. Florence is causing headaches for travelers. This hurricane is so big that about 11 million Americans are under warnings and storm watches. The worst part of this hurricane is that this is moving so slow that it will take many days for it to clear. In addition, Officials say that it could take about 5 days for the water to clear. As well as, about 2 weeks for the power to go back on.
The rescue teams are working day and night. They have to go through over 4 feet of water and go to every house to see if someone is trapped. They can sometimes tell that people are in their houses because their cars are parked in front or some of them have tape on the windows. Everyone is pitching in there are firefighters, NYPD, EMS,  police dogs, and people around the community are helping too.
Hurricanes often happen in the summer or fall. When they form they are above warm ocean water. The wind starts to blow hard, then wind and rain forms many thunderstorms. The thunderstorms come together in a spinning circle and you have a hurricane. How can everyone see the hurricane from above? Well thats because of the hurricane hunters. They fly an airplane over the hurricane and measure the storms wind speed, temperature, and pressure as well as take pictures and video. A few days later hurricane Florence was about a category 2 as it slowed down. The category number of a hurricane goes from 1 to 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Hurricanes can explode over shore with as much energy as 10,000 nuclear bombs. Strong winds over 180 mph can lift trains and shatter tons of buildings. When it rains trillions of gallons can fall on the ground. Stay away from Florence!

What It's Like to be a Triplet!!!!!
By Grace S.
Oli, Izzy, and Grace

Hi guys.   My name is Grace  and I am a triplet.
I have five siblings:   Two sisters (the other half of
the triplets), another sister that is in college right now,
also I have 2 brothers one of which is in college, and
one that’s about to go to college.

On the other hand,  I’m here to tell you what it
is like to be a triplet.  The most common question I get
asked is “Do you enjoy being a triplet?”

The answer is……..Sometimes.  I personally think
that it's kind of tough.  But I love my sisters. I am the
oldest out of the triplets, the second oldest is Isabella,
but we call her Izzy, and the third triplet her name is
Olivia but we call Olie.

Like a lot of siblings, we share a room, and it is a long bedroom
so all of our beds and desks will fit.
Our  beds are carved into the wall and across from
our beds are our desks.

My favorite thing about being a triplet is that I will
always have 2 friends/sisters.  My dad always tries to
remind us that we will always have 2 sisters by our
side so we should be grateful.

 Halloween! What is it?
by Athena V.
Halloween is one of a kid’s favorite
Holidays.  It is filled with costumes,
candy, toys, scary haunted houses and
so much more!  But let’s take a look at
how it used to and came to be.  Think.
Have you wondered how your favorite
holiday came to be?  Well, let’s find
out.  We need to travel back 2,000 years
to the ancient celtic festival
Samhain in the area that today is
Ireland, the U.K., and Northern France.
They used to celebrate New Years on November 1st.
This day marked the end of summer
and the harvest and the beginning
of the dark, stormy, cold winter; a time
of year that was often associated with death.
Celts believed that on the night before
the new year, the boundary between
the worlds of the living and the dead
was taken down.  On the night of October 31
they celebrated Samhain, when it was
believed that the spirits of the dead
returned to earth.  So that is the
beginning of Halloween.  Now time for what it was
60 to 70 years ago.  So, back then you
or your parents MADE your costumes
and baked goods were really popular
Treats, for example: caramel apples and
popcorn balls.  Looking back at the simple
stuff, your houses were normally bare
with not many decorations, and the
houses were smaller.  By the way, occasionally,
you would see a Raggedy Ann and a Raggedy Andy.
Now, what do we do today?  Any old
kid would say that Halloween is a candy massacre.
Not to say we fight; but really,
Halloween is one night where kids and
parents dress up.  But they don’t really want to.
The parents hand out candy and toys
while plenty of people’s houses get t.p.-ed and we get
to be scary.   In short, it’s a night when we can all be
ourselves.

Who do you think is going to win the World Series?
These are the teams that will be in the  playoffs:

The Houston Astros  won last year.
The Boston Red Sox this season have 96 wins and 44 loses.
The Cleveland Indians have some really good pitching for example
Trevor Bauer 2.22 ERA.

The Chicago Cups are a fan favorite.
The Colorado Rockies have a 81 and 65 record.
Wild Card
Now, the wild card is for teams that are in 2nd places in their division
and have a good record. Meanwhile the top two teams will face off.

American League
The Yankees have some very good hitters.

            Our Favorite Sports
By: Ben K and Jett W

By Jett:
To begin with, I love football, and it’s my
favorite sport. I started to play football
when I was in kindergarten, and have been playing every year since then. If you play football or watch football you have to have a favorite team. My two favorite teams for NFL and NCAA are the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas A&M Aggies. I think football is the best sport because it’s intense, fun, and it takes a lot of athleticism. Therefore, football is my favorite sport.

By Ben:
First of all, my favorite sport is
soccer. I have been playing since
preschool and I love to play. I play at
School with my friends and at
home with my brothers. I am going
to play at Benold Middle School and
then in high school and college.
Another good thing is that Soccer helps with
eye coordination and with leg strength.
When I am older I want to play pro soccer.

So therefore, soccer is my favorite sport.

                         Prodigy the Game Everyone loves!
                                                                              By Izzy
Everyone LOVES playing Prodigy
What is one of the most popular school games in 5th
grade and in every grade? PRODIGY! It is a game designed for
learning. Everywhere I go I hear someone asking the teacher,
“Can we play Prodigy?” “Are we playing Prodigy?” Why is this
game so enjoyable? You get to interact with people, also you can
make houses, you can level up, battle people, you can be friends
with people, also you can like other peoples posts. Prodigy has
evolved so much I can ‘just’ remember when you just battled people
and that was it.
The object of the game is to go to an Academy. All of the
crystals have been stolen to open the academy and you have to
complete all the lands to get all the gems back. People also love to
battle everyone. You can battle other people or you can battle
strangers. But be sure, Guys and Girls, that you don't bug your
teacher too much about this game or else you ask so much you
won't be able to play anymore! Furthermore, You can customize
your characters and get new awesome stylish gear. You can also
become a member and get even more stuff, as well as you can
evolve your pets and get member stars which help you level up.
For a monthly plan it is $8.95, 6 months is $47.70,
and for a yearly plan it is $59.88. You can also buy epics to
help you battle, and you also have to buy those, sadly, but they
are $13.95 and that is for one of them. Make sure
you ask your parents first before doing anything. Just click right
here and purchase your membership! Prodigy Also with being a
member you can get other clothing options and you can evolve
your pets. So you can capture pets and have them help you in
battle. That doesn't cost anything but gold.   You will eventually
earn that in battles. Evolving is pretty much like your pets
growing up. They become more powerful than they were before.
Also, they look pretty cool.

Thank y'all for listening I hope you enjoy Prodigy as much
as I do.
Make sure y’all read all of my other articles!.
