M.A.R.E by: Athena.V
Marine, Activities, Resources, and Education or as
all of us students know it: M.A.R.E. Some students, including myself,
might say that it is the best time of the year. And, others maybe not
but all I know is that in my opinion it is a BLAST! Each grade level
focuses on different marine life in different areas. Here’s the list:
Pre-k focuses on water, Kinder does explores the pond, 1st grade tries
not to get scraped up at the rocky shore, 2nd grade plays at the sandy
shore, 3rd grade is wading through the wetlands, 4th grade floats
through the kelp forest, and finally, 5th grade dives into the open
ocean. Pre-k, kindergarten, first grade, and second grade all do their
work at school making the ecosystems and sea life. In contrast,
third grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade do life size projects at
home. The projects are the sea life they learn about. They learn
about ecosystems as well. We research, study, and educate ourselves
with the oceans’ ecosystems. For example, a 4th grader could be assigned
a seahorse because seahorses live in the kelp forest, also write two
notecards worth of information about that animal. Every class has
something to do with marine life: even specials. For example, P.E.
puts a twist on dodgeball twice! In one version you have to dodge
the ball and an octopus the other you are trying to knock the octopus
down. One more thing, about M.A.R.E. is that it is the last unit of
the year so once M.A.R.E. is over we say ciao to school and hello
to summer fun.
