MEDIA OR NO MEDIA?
By Dennie Decker
If there’s one thing that everyone in the world has heard about, it’s social media.  In this 5th grade year, I have never gone a day without hearing about Musically or Instagram. Different people have different opinions about social media.  There are definitely great things about media, but there are also some not so great things about it, too.

The Pros
Even though I don’t participate in social media, I must say, it’s plain cool. In social media app Snapchat, you can use special camera filters to make yourself have big sad eyes, or dog ears.  In Musically, you can create a neat choreography to your favorite song and then send it out online!  Also, it allows you to express yourself to the world.  In Twitter, you can share pictures of you doing you favorite things, or being with your favorite person.  Finally, on social media apps, you can meet new people.  On Facebook, you can “follow” anyone whether it’s a friend, a celebrity, or a classmate and learn about them in their favorite things.

The Cons
Social media may have pros, but there’s definitely a dark side to social media. The first con of social media is that it’s not always appropriate. On Musically, there are many songs with curse words and suggestive language. Kids shouldn’t listen to dirty music, because it makes them think it’s okay to say dirty words. Also, some people want “ likes” so much they post inappropriate pictures- that everyone and anyone can see. Lastly, and worst of all, people let social media absorb their lives. Kids become so obsessed with social media that they stop physically talking to people, forget about their lives, stop being active, and lose sleep every night over “being followed “ or “ getting likes.” I’ve seen a kind and athletic friend let social media absorb their lives, and looking at the before and after effect is quite scary.

So, if I had to choose between media or no media, I’d chose no media because the “cons” of social media are overwhelming.  I think social media is plain silly, but I know y’all 5th graders love those social media apps.  I can’t ban anyone from social media, but I can give my advice: Be careful and never, never, let social media absorb you life.

Soccer
By: Martin

This is the biggest game of soccer! It’s Real Madrid vs Barcelona and everybody wants to get tickets for the game. The team that I cheer for is Real Madrid because it has the best player in the world, Ronaldo.  I like him because he is a very good forward.  Some people like Messi, but I don’t like Messi. He is good, but he does not score a lot of goals. Barcelona is good. The last game that they played against Real Madrid, they tied 1-1.  Barcelona was about to win but at the last minute Real Madrid tied. I was so, so, so happy. In 2015 Barcelona  beat Real Madrid but in 2016 Real Madrid beat Barcelona I was happy that time. They call that game El Classico cause it’s a biggest game!

The Safety of Horses
BY:Gracie Stephens
Do you enjoy horses?
Well, if you do, then stay tuned! So, what do you know about horses? If you have been around horses, you know that you always have to be prepared, because anything- anytime could happen. The first step of being around a horse is always knowing about your surroundings. For example, you should never get between them and another animal or between them and the fence.
The second thing you should know is to never stand behind horses because you could be kicked! Trust me, you don't want to get behind a 1200 pound horse. I've been kicked and I'll say it didn't feel good.
The next safety fact is to always wear a helmet when riding because your horse could spook; leading you to fall off and get hurt. Like they say “better to be safe than sorry”.

I hope you got some information about the safety of horses. So, maybe you will want to go ride one day. Now, as they say: Saddle up, Boys, here we go!

Back To The Future
Nike High Tops By: Dave Entrekin
If you have seen the second Back to the Future then you know what the Electric Nike High Tops are.  I saw a video of Michael.J Fox trying on the real shoes.  The way the Back to the Future Nike high tops work is, there is a green button that tightens the shoes on your feet and there's a red button that releases the shoes on your  feet.     These shoes are supposed to be very expensive, which isn't a surprise considering their electric high tops that automatically tighten.  I'm sure Michael J.Fox will end up owning a pair of these  shoes because he played Marty McFly and wore them.  In the movie Back to the Future Marty McFly taps the side of the shoes  and they tighten around his feet.  When these shoes are released in November, there will be two buttons as I said earlier.  I think most of the people who  get these shoes are going to think they're the best thing since sliced bread. These shoes will end up being very popular among people who can afford them.  As the CEO of Nike says “ We don't know how much the shoes are going to be but the buyers are expecting a high priced tag”.  In conclusion, I  think these shoes will be the most successful that Nike has had so far, because they are electric high tops that automatic will tighten.

These shoes are from Nike.
Peaches and Tater Tot!
By: Mario Mercadante, Abby Sharpe, Violet Drews, and Julia Vickers

Do like you Peaches or Tater Tot more? Lets see what some Pre-k kids think about their class pets.◕‿◕

Abby: Do you like Peaches or Tater Tot more?
Marlene : I like Peaches.
Michael : Peaches!
Jameson : I like the other one Tater Tot.
Kailyn : Tater Tot!
Julia : Do you enjoy them?
Marlene : yes!
Michael : yes!
Jameson : Yes but I have a dog her name is Hazel.
Kailyn : Yes and I have a dog too.

Now let’s ask Mrs. Seaback what she thinks about her class pets!◕‿◕

Julia : Do you like Peaches or Tater Tot?
Mrs. Seaback : That is a really good question. You know Peaches really loves attention so  I  --guess like her but Tater Tot  recently has let us pick her up. So she is getting more affectionate. So it's kind of a tie right now.
Julia : Why did you get Peaches and Tater Tot?
Mrs. Seaback : I think it is fun for the kids to get experience taking care of a pet because a lot of them don't have pets at home so every day they get to take turns being responsible for the pets and feeding them and giving them water and taking care of them.
Julia : Do you enjoy them?
Mrs. Seaback : Yes we enjoy them a lot and kids love having them in our classroom.

                   Thanks for Reading!

Yum! Look at all the food!  Have you ever wondered how the lunch ladies cook amazing and wonderful food? We were wondering that, too. So, we went and asked Ms.Kim a few questions. Our first question was: Where do you get your food from? She told us that she ordered it from a company called Labatte. Then we asked her how long has she been working? She told us that she has been working for 5 years and this was her first year as a manager! Then we asked her if she enjoys her job? She said she enjoys it and never wants to retire.

Phones or Tablets/IPads
By Malee . T and  Kaylia .B

We decided to do a poll on which the fifth graders prefer, Phones or Tablets/IPads . More of the fifth graders prefered Phones over Tablets/IPads, Other things ,and or both.
Key: Other= These students replied that they do not like devices and would rather spend their time doing something else all together.

In all, we found out that more fifth graders prefer phones to Tablets/IPads, Other, and Both. Most 5th graders chose phones because, you can call, skype, facetime, text, and you can get apps you can’t get other devices.
