Behind the Scenes of the Village Sting
                             By:Izzy S.
You read all of these amazing articles, but do you ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes? Reading the article may be easy but making the article is not as easy as it seems. Reporters can make videos, take surveys, or write an article. Sometimes it may even take days to come up with a topic.
                                  Who Started the Sting?
One of the most important parts of the Sting is the editor. Our amazing editor/founder of The Sting is Mrs.Knudsen. I don't know how she deals with editing all of these stories.  I decided to ask her a little bit about when, why, and how she started the Village Sting.
Why did you start the Village Sting?
I wanted to make The Sting so kids can have a way to expose their writing to everyone and not just to each other, but to share it with their school, peers, and parents, and that way everyone can read it.
How do You Feel When an Article is Published?
I am very excited when an article is published. It takes a lot of work to build an article from beginning to end. Once it's published I feel a sense of relief, accomplishment, and pride for the person whose writing the article.
Do you Wish you had other People helping you out with the Sting?
Yes. that's my goal to get more editors. Because the more help we have the more articles we can get published.
Do you Wish More People Would Get the Chance to work on the Village Sting?
Yes I do. Because soon we will be switching R.T.I so that way people will have more opportunity to write more articles.
Do you Want to Make Some changes to the Village Sting?
I am sure that there are changes that we can make to the Village Sting. I am always open for new ideas or suggestions. For example, last year at the end of the year some students asked if they could make videos and, I thought that was a great idea. So, they wrote the article and attached a video to it. I also think that a way to make it better is to have more people see articles by using Twitter. Last year I made a Twitter account for the Village Sting and when the students are publishing it I will post that on the account and hopefully the parents will follow the Twitter account. That way more people will see it.
Do you like Making Videos in the Maker Space Lab?
I do. I love to watch the creativity and, especially the collaboration. There is a lot that can go wrong when making a video. As a teacher I love to see how the students problem solve to figure out how to make the videos better.

The Steps To Making A Amazing Article
Writing a article is not the easiest thing in the world.
  1. Coming up with the article topic is by far one of the hardest things. To help decide on a topic we think about what is happening in the building.
  2. Writing  on the news board is where we record journalists, topic, and if it needs to be edited or not. It is how we keep things organized.
  3. If you are a shy journalist working on the Sting will help you become more confident. You have to pitch your idea to three people. Yes it is necessary. Then you pitch it to Mrs. Knudsen she almost always says yes.
  4. Then you start to write your article. It could take one day or two weeks. It is very time consuming.
  5. Then comes the editing portion. Nothing is harder than the editing. This process can take 1 day or one week. Mrs. knudsen is our one and only editor. In the interview above she stated that she needs more editors, but, she is one of the best editors in town.
  6. Then once your story is all polished up now comes the publishing. This process does not take very long, but it does take a lot of hard work to fit it all onto one column. Mrs. Knudsen normally posts one article at a time. Sometimes, she puts up two. Then you start all over again!

                                                                   The Journalists
I decided to do a section on what the journalists like and don't like about the Sting.

                             Pros 😊
                                      Cons 😈
You get to express your ideas
Wish we had more time
You can find out new things it is a learning experience
The topics are hard to understand
You can put comments on other peoples stories
It is hard to come up with topics
You get the freedom of writing what you want
You can’t  illustrate anything
You can do cool experiments
                      NOTHING!
Everything
Most of the students I asked did not have a answer
Writing the article

Navy Seals    by Nick F. and Aiden H
The Navy Seals were established in 1962 by John F. Kennedy,
but the Navy Seals were also operating during WWII and the
Korean War. By the way, there's a little history for you. The
Navy Seals  were still a Special Forces team, which was
backup for the Navy, but just not known like they are today.

Training
The training for Navy Seals is mentally and
physically challenging.  Nevertheless, they still
work the hardest. For example, Navy Seals training
last 8 weeks long and the training involves testing
your mental and physical skills.  One of the training
steps is to link arms and lay down next to the ocean
and be hit by massive waves for one whole day.
Training prepares the Navy Seals for anything to
happen in our country . The Navy Seal’s have to
get up at 4:30 am every day including the
weekends! As you can see, the Navy Seals
have a very harsh training.

On The Battlefield

Words of Brant Gleeson, a retired Navy Seal, said,
“In Africa, I gained a unique perspective on
teamwork.” I agree with Gleeson the Navy
Seals do need to have a lot of teamwork.  For
Example, the Navy Seals spend months in
places like Iraq and places where they could be
planning an attack or a ambush. So as you can
see the Navy Seals   have a very harsh training
which helps them in Iraq, and they have the
history to prove it.

Fashion Tips
By:Taylor T

If you have some clothes that you don’t
want anymore, you can make new clothes
by combining it together. For example, the
original look of putting buttons, or sewing it
back together if it has holes in it. Also, if it is
a pair of jeans you might be able to turn
them into a jean jacket with a little work of
scissors .It could be cool, and you can add
whatever you want on the jacket.  For
instance, you bought a shirt you don’t like
anymore you can add your very own touch
to the shirt. Let’s say the shirt has a
ballerina, but the ballerina is only black,
and has a pink background.  First, you
might want to add some sequins to the
background, and you can also add some
fabric to the ballerina and make it look like
it has a skirt, but that is only an option.
I really hope you can try these fashion tips,
and make your clothes your own your style!

Should Teachers Have class pets?
by Blake G.

Mrs. Seaback's class pet
Peaches, the guinea pig
Does your teacher have a class pet? If not, which pet would you like to have if you got a class pet?  This year my homeroom teacher does not have one, but my science teacher has some fish. Last year, my homeroom teacher had 4 class pets!  There was a bearded dragon (lizard), turtle ,fish, and a frog. I believe kids like having class pets because they get to feed it and look at it. I  think some teachers have class pets to teach responsibilities . When I had class pets the kids had their own turn when they got to feed the pet which is fun. Part of responsibilities to having a class pet are remembering to feed the pet and giving it clean water every morning.   I think the most common pet is a fish, hamster, and a guinea pig. .I think  a lot of teachers have fish because they are so cool to look at. Most of the fish that are class pets have super cool tanks with things that flow through the water and fun statues to look at. Hamsters and guinea pigs  are cool because they run around and run on their wheel. My favorite part of having a hamster is that the kids get to hold it and pet it. Fish, hamsters, and guinea pigs cheer people up when be stressed out or sad. My favorite part of having a class pet is that if kids at home don't have a pet they have a pet at school to look at.

How To Make The Perfect S’more
By Taylor T
First, you need a fire or a stove then you need to get graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate. For instance, you take a graham
cracker and snap it in half and
put the chocolate in the middle,
or the marshmallow. Now, you
put the marshmallow over the
stove or fire and wait for it to
turn a nice golden brown then
stick it between two graham crackers then put the chocolate
on top of the marshmallow and
eat it. Finally, enjoy the oozing mouth-watering s'more. I love s'mores!

    5 Slime For Fun Time

 (part 1)
By Wendy D. and Susanna H.

  • Elmer’s glue
  • Borax
  • Bowl
  • Spoon
  • Glitter
Fanta Slime

Susanna and I made slime in the
video below  that replicates the
glitter-like fizz when you open an
ice cold Fanta.  All-in-all, the slime
is pretty basic. The slime did have
some flaws, however.  When we got
started, the slime did not activate
right away, but we finally got it
working so the slime turned out
marvelous! Besides, I would recommend
making slime as a gift for someone or
just for yourself. Afterwards, always tell
your friend that there is Borax in it.
Finally, this slime might look like a
delicious drink, but for your safety
please don’t drink the slime.
