The Preamble of the
Constitution
by: Dave Entrekin

As you know, the first sentence of the U.S Constitution is called the Preamble. The Preamble of the U.S Constitution is,We the people Of the United States,in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, secure the blessings of liberty do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America. It turns out,in 5th grade at Village Elementary you have to memorize The Preamble of the U.S Constitution. I'm still studying the preamble but, I intend on saying it soon.  Quite a few people have said the preamble but still most have not.  The way the grading system works on this specific grade is, for every word you add or take away you lose 2 points.   Keep this in mind third and fourth graders.   I would recommend learning part of the preamble now so you don't have to do it later on.   In conclusion, this  is a good assignment for students to learn  the preamble of the US Constitution.
      5th grade Field Trip
                                       Brianna L , Ashley R , and  Caleigh W

The 5th grade field trip was super exciting for us 5th graders.  We got to do all sorts of wonderful things; like a planetarium, a walk through time, and a make and take.  All of the rollicking tour guides taught us so much about  sound waves, extinct animals, stars, and planets.

Then we got back on the school bus, to go eat lunch at a park. Then a Kona Ice, a snow cone  truck, came to give the whole 5th grade snow cones!!

Finally, when everyone was done eating their snow cones, we got to play kickball!! It was so fun because ¾  of the 5th grade was playing.  In fact ,the 5th grade is still playing kickball at recess and at PE!!

                   edited by Ava Lester
Have you ever gone to the San Antonio River Walk ? On the Riverwalk, you get to learn about the history of San Antonio, Texas, see beautiful sights, spend time with your family, and meet new people.
When you tour the San Antonio River Walk, you learn about the history of San Antonio, Texas. There are historical paintings on the sides of buildings that honor historical times of Texas History. The tour leader shows you land points on the way down the river. The tour leader gives you important information that you might not know. You will never believe all the wonderful historical sites you will experience with your own eyes!
Also, when you visit the San Antonio River Walk, you get to see beautiful sites. There are ducks, flowers, trees, and stores you can get wonderful gifts.  While on the boat, you go under bridges that have flowers on them(as shown below). While visiting you can enjoy some music. At twilight there are many lights so you can ride the boat and look at the attractions.

There is plenty of room on the boat for your family. You never have to ride on different boats but, on certain situations, you might need to tell the boat leader that your family wants to stay together. I’m certain they will let your family stay together. You won’t have any worries at all!
You also get to meet new people. There is lots of room on the boats, so it’s the perfect time to meet new people and get new friends. You could make lifelong friendships you never knew you could make. You can always make more than one friend.
On the San Antonio River Walk, you’ll have a great time catching up with old friends or celebrating your birthday. It’s the perfect place. You’ll never wear a frown if you are on the San Antonio River Walk.     Image result for san antonio riverwalk

Texas Museum Of Science and Technology
BY:Nevaeh Rodriguez
Have you ever been to the Texas Museum Of Science and Technology? Well, we went on a field trip to the Texas Museum Of Science and Technology in Cedar Park, Texas, on Thursday.
The Texas  Museum Of Science and Technology is a good place to go to if you like learning about dinosaurs and the galaxy.

At the Texas Museum Of Science and Technology there are a bunch of stations. One of the stations is the walk through station, and the walk through is all about dinosaurs and all about ancient history. The second station is the Make and Take Station. The Make and Take is where you make a bookmark and you add all of the rainbow colors. The rainbow colors represent light. The third station is in a planetarium. The planetarium is where you go into a big round half circle and you look up and it is like you are outside looking at the stars. The person in charge of the planetarium shows you a bunch of planets and it shows the stars. It might make you dizzy, but it is really cool. We enjoyed it, and can’t wait to go back.

March Madness Upsets
By: Noah B. Jack K. and Alex M.

North Carolina got their revenge this year by winning the NCAA Championship. It wasn't a surprise that North Carolina won the NCAA  championship because they were the favorite from the beginning. But this year there was a lot of upsets, and that was the big stand out, and once again nobody got a right bracket. Our group counted about 11 upsets this year in the tournament. The First round upsets were USC upsets SMU, Middle Tennessee dominates Minnesota, Xavier defeats Maryland, Rhode Island upsets Creighton, and Wichita state takes down Dayton. Next, we go to the upsetting 2nd round. The upsets were Wisconsin beats #2 team in the tournament Villanova, Xavier crushes  Florida State and moves on, Michigan edges out against Louisville, and South Carolina dominates Duke. Now, we go to the sweet 16, and the upsets were Xavier beats  Arizona coming down to the final seconds, and South Carolina gets another upset once again against Baylor. Now, we go to the final eight teams of the tournament. Oregon upsets number one seed Kansas and South Carolina upsets Florida. The first big upset of the tournament was USC beating SMU. USC hardly even made the tournament, they had to play a play in game against Providence. Not many people chose USC to move on, that was a big upset. Another big upset in the first round was Middle Tennessee beat Minnesota. Middle Tennessee has beat a lot of good teams in the last few years and upset them. Like in 2016 Middle Tennessee was a 15 seed and 2 seed Michigan State. But once again this year  Middle Tennessee pulls out another upset. Xavier shocked Maryland with their talent and skill as a 11 seed. Xavier somehow beat Maryland pretty good. Going into the 2nd round was where big upsets happened.  Going into the tournament Rhode Island was on fire, and was on a 8 game win streak. But, the bad thing was that they had to play Creighton. But, apparently that it wasn't like that to Rhode Island. Rhode Island came on to that court like they were the number one team in the country. They beat Creighton by 12 84-72. Rhode Island then stretched their winning streak to 9.   The big stand out of the 2nd round was where Wisconsin beat Villanova by 3. It was one of the best and closest games of the tournament. The score went back and forth all game, but Wisconsin barely pulled it out. Arkansas probably played their best game of the year when they played Arkansas, but lost. Arkansas lost by 7 72-65. It doesn't sound like a very close game but it was! Arkansas was either down by 1 or 2 or up by 1 or 2. North Carolina edged it out in the last few minutes. Xavier beat Maryland in the first round, but no one thought they could beat #3 seed Florida State. Apparently, there was because Xavier CRUSHED Florida State. Xavier outsmarted, played better, and had better defense. Xavier won by 25 and the final score was 91-66. Michigan was on fire going into the game vs. Louisville. Michigan was one of the best 3 point shooting teams in the country. That's what saved them in the game vs. Louisville, and Michigan made a good comeback vs Louisville and won! That was another big upset in this years tournament. Almost no one expected South Carolina to get past Marquette and Duke, but somehow they did. The game was close just like North Carolina Arkansas game it was close till the very end. South Carolina only scored 23 points in the first half. Duke scored 30 and that put South Carolina down 7 going into the 2nd half. But South Carolina wasn't done there. South Carolina scored 65 points in the 2nd half, and they more than doubled their score from the 1st half. South Carolina held Duke to 51 points, and that gave South Carolina the 88-81 win. Going into the sweet 16 we have the huge upset about Xavier upsets another team Arizona. Arizona was ranked #2 sees and Xavier was ranked a #11 seed. But yet again Xavier defeats another top team in the tournament. It was a really close game even till the buzzer. Arizona had a chance to tie but Arizona gets the missed shot and wins 73-71. Another sweet 16 upset was South Carolina takes down Baylor. South Carolina was hot going into the next game VS. Baylor. South Carolina crushed Baylor in the good sweet 16 matchup, South Carolina won 70-50. South Carolina March through the first half vs Baylor and scored 37 points, and holding Baylor to only 22. South Carolina Marched through the second half and scored 33 points and only holding Baylor to 28 which gave South Carolina the win to go to their first elite 8 appearance in school history. Kansas was the #1 seed in their region going into the game against Oregon, but they didn't know that there was an upset in their future. After the first half Oregon was up by 11, and it stayed that way in the 2nd half. The final score came out as 74-60, and Oregon had the win in the bag. South Carolina once again sealed another upset again in this tournament. South Carolina soundly defeated Florida in the elite 8 match up which gave South Carolina their first final 4 appearance in school history. In the other region North Carolina barely beat Kentucky 75-73 in their elite 8 match up to bring North Carolina to the final 4. North Carolina then beat Oregon to go to the NCAA championship. The other final 4 match up with Gonzaga vs. South Carolina match up was going to be a good game. It came down to the line with South Carolina down by 2 with 1 min left. But Gonzaga got the ball back and scored witch gave Gonzaga a 4 point lead, and won 77-73. That gave Gonzaga their first ever school appearance to the NCAA championship, so it was Gonzaga vs. North Carolina in the NCAA championship. There was many lead changes and ties in the very close North Carolina vs Gonzaga NCAA championship game. Gonzaga was up for the entire 1st half with a lead of 3 at the end of the 1st half, but North Carolina didn’t give up there. North Carolina then out scored Gonzaga in the 2nd half 39-30 and won the NCAA championship 71-65 by outscoring Gonzaga in the last few minutes of the game. North Carolina then finally had their revenge by winning the NCAA championship, it was a thriller!

  L.E.D Shoes
               BY: CELESTE

The new favorite shoe in my school is the L.E.D shoe! They come in many different colors, and the lights change many different colors! They are a very cool pair of shoes but I have seen that the lights have stopped working, and many more things that are not worth what you have to pay for these shoes. I think a lot of people wanted them because everybody is getting them. They are a popular type of shoe, but to make them light up, all the shoe has to do is to add an extra piece of rubber and put lights inside  (well at least that is what it looks like!) I would really like to have them, but I don't really want to waste my time and money to go buy a shoe that usually doesn't work all the time. Before you think about buying these shoes, think of all these things that may happen after or when you buy them.  So, the next time you are in a mall, shopping online, or anywhere else that you see these shoes, remember this article to help you with buying these shoes or not! I also don't want to have you thinking these shoes are the worst things ever, because they are not.  They are a super cool pair of shoes and they look especially cool in the dark, but they do give you some stress. For the most part, they actually are pretty cool. If you have or plan to buy them, think of the pros and cons of this pair of shoes! Some people say that they love having them as a backup pair of shoes because they are just like a normal everyday shoe. They just have  lights on them.  My friends that have them say that they would not wear them to a muddy place because they are hard to clean. If you are somebody that wants them, make sure you don't wear them EVERYDAY unless you want trouble cleaning them!!!

Camp Crosby
By Ava Lester
On April 9, Mason Crosby, a player on the Green Bay Packers’ team, led a camp that included outdoor sports. The activities were football, lacrosse, basketball, baseball, volleyball, dodgeball, track, golf, kites, and soccer. There were 20 groups of kids at the camp. Volunteers from Kohl’s and schools came to help out. Each group was full of kids around each other’s age. The people that came were from the elementary schools in Georgetown. Kids in sixth grade and up could help assist the groups.
Camp Crosby was a part of The Locker program, which is about kids helping others. Crosby donated some of the money to help kids. Sonic made a generous offer: providing water for everyone.

At Camp Crosby, every kid had the opportunity to find out which sport they want to play and what they are best at. Every person got along with each other and we all had a very enjoyable time. I would recommend going to this camp next year to either volunteer or participate in the sports.                              This is a picture of Mason Crosby playing lacrosse with kids.                                  -->

MEDIA OR NO MEDIA?
By Dennie Decker
If there’s one thing that everyone in the world has heard about, it’s social media.  In this 5th grade year, I have never gone a day without hearing about Musically or Instagram. Different people have different opinions about social media.  There are definitely great things about media, but there are also some not so great things about it, too.

The Pros
Even though I don’t participate in social media, I must say, it’s plain cool. In social media app Snapchat, you can use special camera filters to make yourself have big sad eyes, or dog ears.  In Musically, you can create a neat choreography to your favorite song and then send it out online!  Also, it allows you to express yourself to the world.  In Twitter, you can share pictures of you doing you favorite things, or being with your favorite person.  Finally, on social media apps, you can meet new people.  On Facebook, you can “follow” anyone whether it’s a friend, a celebrity, or a classmate and learn about them in their favorite things.

The Cons
Social media may have pros, but there’s definitely a dark side to social media. The first con of social media is that it’s not always appropriate. On Musically, there are many songs with curse words and suggestive language. Kids shouldn’t listen to dirty music, because it makes them think it’s okay to say dirty words. Also, some people want “ likes” so much they post inappropriate pictures- that everyone and anyone can see. Lastly, and worst of all, people let social media absorb their lives. Kids become so obsessed with social media that they stop physically talking to people, forget about their lives, stop being active, and lose sleep every night over “being followed “ or “ getting likes.” I’ve seen a kind and athletic friend let social media absorb their lives, and looking at the before and after effect is quite scary.

So, if I had to choose between media or no media, I’d chose no media because the “cons” of social media are overwhelming.  I think social media is plain silly, but I know y’all 5th graders love those social media apps.  I can’t ban anyone from social media, but I can give my advice: Be careful and never, never, let social media absorb you life.

Soccer
By: Martin

This is the biggest game of soccer! It’s Real Madrid vs Barcelona and everybody wants to get tickets for the game. The team that I cheer for is Real Madrid because it has the best player in the world, Ronaldo.  I like him because he is a very good forward.  Some people like Messi, but I don’t like Messi. He is good, but he does not score a lot of goals. Barcelona is good. The last game that they played against Real Madrid, they tied 1-1.  Barcelona was about to win but at the last minute Real Madrid tied. I was so, so, so happy. In 2015 Barcelona  beat Real Madrid but in 2016 Real Madrid beat Barcelona I was happy that time. They call that game El Classico cause it’s a biggest game!

The Safety of Horses
BY:Gracie Stephens
Do you enjoy horses?
Well, if you do, then stay tuned! So, what do you know about horses? If you have been around horses, you know that you always have to be prepared, because anything- anytime could happen. The first step of being around a horse is always knowing about your surroundings. For example, you should never get between them and another animal or between them and the fence.
The second thing you should know is to never stand behind horses because you could be kicked! Trust me, you don't want to get behind a 1200 pound horse. I've been kicked and I'll say it didn't feel good.
The next safety fact is to always wear a helmet when riding because your horse could spook; leading you to fall off and get hurt. Like they say “better to be safe than sorry”.

I hope you got some information about the safety of horses. So, maybe you will want to go ride one day. Now, as they say: Saddle up, Boys, here we go!

Back To The Future
Nike High Tops By: Dave Entrekin
If you have seen the second Back to the Future then you know what the Electric Nike High Tops are.  I saw a video of Michael.J Fox trying on the real shoes.  The way the Back to the Future Nike high tops work is, there is a green button that tightens the shoes on your feet and there's a red button that releases the shoes on your  feet.     These shoes are supposed to be very expensive, which isn't a surprise considering their electric high tops that automatically tighten.  I'm sure Michael J.Fox will end up owning a pair of these  shoes because he played Marty McFly and wore them.  In the movie Back to the Future Marty McFly taps the side of the shoes  and they tighten around his feet.  When these shoes are released in November, there will be two buttons as I said earlier.  I think most of the people who  get these shoes are going to think they're the best thing since sliced bread. These shoes will end up being very popular among people who can afford them.  As the CEO of Nike says “ We don't know how much the shoes are going to be but the buyers are expecting a high priced tag”.  In conclusion, I  think these shoes will be the most successful that Nike has had so far, because they are electric high tops that automatic will tighten.

These shoes are from Nike.
Peaches and Tater Tot!
By: Mario Mercadante, Abby Sharpe, Violet Drews, and Julia Vickers

Do like you Peaches or Tater Tot more? Lets see what some Pre-k kids think about their class pets.◕‿◕

Abby: Do you like Peaches or Tater Tot more?
Marlene : I like Peaches.
Michael : Peaches!
Jameson : I like the other one Tater Tot.
Kailyn : Tater Tot!
Julia : Do you enjoy them?
Marlene : yes!
Michael : yes!
Jameson : Yes but I have a dog her name is Hazel.
Kailyn : Yes and I have a dog too.

Now let’s ask Mrs. Seaback what she thinks about her class pets!◕‿◕

Julia : Do you like Peaches or Tater Tot?
Mrs. Seaback : That is a really good question. You know Peaches really loves attention so  I  --guess like her but Tater Tot  recently has let us pick her up. So she is getting more affectionate. So it's kind of a tie right now.
Julia : Why did you get Peaches and Tater Tot?
Mrs. Seaback : I think it is fun for the kids to get experience taking care of a pet because a lot of them don't have pets at home so every day they get to take turns being responsible for the pets and feeding them and giving them water and taking care of them.
Julia : Do you enjoy them?
Mrs. Seaback : Yes we enjoy them a lot and kids love having them in our classroom.

                   Thanks for Reading!
                                      :)

Yum! Look at all the food!  Have you ever wondered how the lunch ladies cook amazing and wonderful food? We were wondering that, too. So, we went and asked Ms.Kim a few questions. Our first question was: Where do you get your food from? She told us that she ordered it from a company called Labatte. Then we asked her how long has she been working? She told us that she has been working for 5 years and this was her first year as a manager! Then we asked her if she enjoys her job? She said she enjoys it and never wants to retire.

Phones or Tablets/IPads
By Malee . T and  Kaylia .B

We decided to do a poll on which the fifth graders prefer, Phones or Tablets/IPads . More of the fifth graders prefered Phones over Tablets/IPads, Other things ,and or both.
Key: Other= These students replied that they do not like devices and would rather spend their time doing something else all together.

In all, we found out that more fifth graders prefer phones to Tablets/IPads, Other, and Both. Most 5th graders chose phones because, you can call, skype, facetime, text, and you can get apps you can’t get other devices.
