 Slime trends
By: Colby B and Addy G
As you probably know, slime is taking over the world. Kids love this sticky, satisfying, and gooey mixture. Despite the fun, slime is causing a big glue shortage. If you search up slime you will notice the huge slimes that take up gallons of glue. Kids are selling slime on Ebay, Facebook, and Instagram and many other popular websites. If you want to help Elmers or other glue companies you can make no-glue slimes.

Another benefit is borax. Most  people use borax and hot water. This is an activator to the glue to create the slime. But, what most people don't know is that borax is really bad for your skin. It can cause 1st to 3rd degree burns.  As a replacement, some people use borax as a laundry detergent or baking soda and contact solution. To help Elmers you can make slime with this recipe below.

                                Recipe
1 cup of Model magic
1 cup of Shaving cream
1 teaspoon of Water
First, add a cup model magic into a bowl. Then, to just soften it up put in your water and shaving cream. Last, just knead it until a nice slimey, buttery, consistency.

We might of made slime sound bad with the borax and  glue shortage but it is really fun and attracting. We hope you use this recipe for your next or first slime.

    About the
           BlueBonnets
By:Maddy S.

I wanted to talk about the BlueBonnets because People say they are pretty, and they are. but, the reason why I’m talking about the bluebonnets is that some people don’t know a lot about them.  So, I’m going to tell a few things about them and I will be learning some new things too because I moved here from California. So let’s get started!

So some of you might be asking how did the bluebonnet become the state flower and who found it first?  Well, the when I searched on the internet it said that the American Indians first discovered the bluebonnet and started making tales about the flower.  Also, in the early days the missionaries collected the seeds and started planting them around their monasteries (Mon-as-ter-ys) and a myth that the plant came from Europe.  Also, the bluebonnets were brung up in pre-columbian native American folktales and also there is solid botanical evidence that the bluebonnet is an indigenous (In-dig-e-nous) species.  !!COOL!! Also, adopting a state flower in Texas was not an easy task back in 1901,the elected leaders gathered to chose the state flower and that was first on their agenda.  The previous year the Texas senate passed a revolution with some conflict also in the house the debates were flying fast and crazy over open cotton boll proposed by Phil Clement of Mills,Prickly- Pears Cactus proposed by John Nance Garner of Uvalde AKA Cactus Jack.  Wow,That’s a lot of information and I’m just getting started.  Also, some of the elected leaders were asking questions saying what is a bluebonnet and some of the elected leaders knew the flower as the Wolf flower,Buffalo Clover, or ‘El conejo’ (The Rabbit)now that’s a lot of names!  To add on, there was a lot of confusion in the chamber after mentioning a lot of common names.  At that point a group of women, aka members of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Texas who had originated the idea of naming the Bluebonnet.  So this is probably going to be the last sentence for this article so let’s make it good also the Texas State  Wildflower Day is celebrated every April 24, so I hope I see you there sometime!!

        !Thanks for reading!

Village Grow Garden
By: Blake W.,Colton O., and Jake M.

We went outside the other day to help Mrs. McDaniell’s with the 5th grade garden. We planted some carrots, radishes, chard, broccoli, and cauliflower. We learned about the difference between different types of plants.  For example, radishes grow above the soil while carrots grow below.  We figured out that different plants also have different lengths away from each other.  We even got to take some milkweed home! We learned about how the flower beds work.  They have a drain pipe that travels into a collection of pebbles which waters the plants from below which also allows us to not have to water the plants from above.  But, the beds are very fragile, if you ever break them just a little you’ll have to completely rebuild the bed.  Overall, we learned about the importance of growth, the difference between different plants, and how the flowers work.

5th Grade Grow Garden

Business Fair
By: Abby M. Lily M.
Every year in fifth grade Mr.Johnson holds a Business Fair in the cafeteria. This is a really big deal because fifth graders are all competing to get their slip in first. A slip is where you put your name, business name, and what you're making on a piece of paper. Some of the popular items to sell get taken really fast. So, the 5th graders rush before everything they want to make is taken. People won’t even think about anything else except getting their paper in. Someone this year has already turned in their form, because they really wanted to make slime (slime is a really popular item). Business fair is an awesome event, but people go insane about everything. There has already been a fight about people slime for Business Fair. But, the the spots have been filled for slime.
The 5th Grade Business Fair is to raise money for their field trip. The more money they make, the better the field trip. The 5th graders have to come up with creative ideas that they think will sell.
Some of the items you’re allowed to make are:
  • Slime( really popular)File:Glitter Slime.gif - Wikimedia Commons
  • Candles
  • Duct tape items (like wallets)
  • Survival bracelets (really popular)Paracord Bracelets | Cobra Knot with side-release buckles an… | Flickr

    Interview  With    Mrs. Blankenship
:       By : Tessa,H And Sammy,B ;
:       A fourth grade teacher at Village Elementary  :
20171019_143347.jpg
Tessa, Mrs. Blankenship, and Sammy

We hope to learn more about Mrs. Blankenship and why she came to Village.
We would like to see how her classroom works. We want to know what subject she teaches and how she teaches it. We would also like to know  what her old school was like and what
she taught there.

Sammy: Why did you start teaching?
Mrs.Blankenship:  I have loved watching children  learn  since I was very young. I started as a babysitter and then got a job at a daycare in a church, and went on from there. The best feeling I ever got was to see somebody getting something when I tried to explain it.

Tessa: Do you like teaching?
Mrs.Blankenship:  I’ve only been teaching for five years, but I taught  my children so I’ve really been teaching for a long time.I enjoy teaching I really do.

Sammy: Do you like teaching 4th grade?
Mrs.Blankenship: I have always only taught fourth  grade except when I did  my student teaching when tought 5th but I really like 4th for some odd reason.

Tessa:Would you like to teach any other grade? Why?
Mrs.Blankenship:  Another grade I might  teach would be 2nd grade or maybe 3rd but if I didn’t have a choice I would teach any grade. Like, if they said I had to teach kinder I would, but if I had my choice it would definitely be 4th or 2nd.

Sammy : Do you like Village? Why?
Mrs. Blankenship: I LOVE Village. I’ve only ever taught at Village and Frost. There were some very positive  things about Frost, but I feel very calm and at home back at Village. You have some very cool traditions like eggdrop and M.A.R.E. Not every school does that. You're lucky. I LOVE it here.

Tessa:What’s your favorite Disney character? Why?
Mrs. Blankenship:  Oh… um... It’s definitely not Ariel. It’s probably Mulan. You know because she is a hero, and she saves China and her entire  country.

In summary Mrs. Blankenship is one of the best, most wonderful teacher in fourth grade. She loves teaching fourth graders, she loves Village, and she is a great person in general.
