The Flu
By: Blake and Olie

Have you ever heard of the flu or maybe even had it? If not, you should let us tell you
what it is and how to prevent it. The flu can happen in many different ways and can
affect people differently.  During flu season almost everybody knows someone who's
been affected by the flu. About 49,000,000 (forty-nine million) people in the U.S. get
sick with the flu in one year. You can get the flu any time of the year but you have to be
really careful during flu season. Influenza (also known as the flu)  is one the WORST
things to be sick with so here here are some tips and notes to help you prevent it or to
know if you have it.

How do I know if I have the flu?

  • Fever or feeling feverish (not everyone with flu may have fever)
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue ( tiredness/glazed eyes)
  • Vomiting
  • Chills

Since no one wants to get the flu, here are some tools to help you prevent it:

  • LOTS of hand-sanitizer
  • Clorox wipes
  • Disinfectant spray
  • Tissues
  • Mask
  • Latex Gloves (to help you not touch your face if your really sick)
How to Stay Healthy in the Classroom

Look around your classroom and see if you see hand-sanitizer if you do that's great, if not
ask your teacher to ask kids to help buy stuff or buy some yourself. Use Clorox wipes
down your desk and after you blow your nose. Make sure to sneeze into your elbow
and NOT your hands. This is one of the hardest things to not do, but try not to touch
your face, because your hands have lots of germs on them and if you touch your face
then you could become sick. Use the Clorox wipes to wipe down door handles too. Many
people touch and use the door handles so there are lots and lots of germs on them. If you
would like you can wear a mask over your mouth and nose. If your school has Chromebooks
or iPads wipe them down with Clorox wipes before you use them. Make sure you wring out
the Clorox wipe before you use it on the Chromebook or iPad because you don’t want to get
the devices to wet and they may not function  right. Wash your hands right after you eat,
cough, or sneeze.
