THE DANGERS OF
CONSTRUCTION

Have you ever wondered what happens to the animals that get pushed out because of construction? I do. I constantly think about it because more and more often I see the animals running across the streets having nowhere to go. I personally think that they should expand the town, but limit it.

My first reason, is people shouldn't cut so many trees down because the animals that live in the trees could be pushed out,and trees and plants give us oxygen to breathe.

Photo by Clint K.  This is one of the newest neighborhoods being built.  It is called Deer Haven which ironically is not a haven for deer, but a haven for people.  

My second reason, is that when people cut down the trees, people might burn the trees to create energy. As a consequence, it lets smoke up in the air and might cause birds to suffocate due to air pollution.

My third reason, is that more and more animals get pushed out on the streets, more deer die every year which I get if you like to hunt but please try to cut back on hunting, even I have gone hunting and it was fun but please for the animals sake of almost  going extinct like the common honey bees please cut back on hunting.

Please tell or talk to the city councilmen and ask them to try to cut back on the amount of construction that is going on around town. I hope you agree with me and tell your friends, comrades and relatives  about this and try to help save the animals by even being a more cautious driver can save an animal's life.

Every year 5th grade has a play. This year our play is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The top six characters in the play are Willy Wonka, Charlie Bucket, Augustus Gloop, Violet Beauregarde, Veruca salt, and Mike Teavee . We are basing the play on both versions of Willy Wonka. All of the songs in the show are, I eat more  (Augustus and Mrs.Gloop), I want more ( Veruca Salt ), Good Luck Charlie ( Mrs.Bucket ), Pure Imagination ( Willy Wonka ), I've Got a Golden Ticket (Grandpa Joe and Charlie ) , Oompa Loompa Do Pa De Doo (Oompa Loompa’s ), The Candy Man (Candy Man, Matilda, James ,and other kids ),Think positive (Charlie ), The Burping Song ( Grandpa Joe and Charlie ), and Golden Age Of Chocolate (Willy Wonka and The Candy Kids ). Sorry if I missed a song or two. Fifth grade was so excited to hear that Mrs.Seaman (Our music teacher here at Village) told us that we are going to do the play Willy Wonka.  If you would like, you can come see our play in May!

Now, what book should I get? Diary of a Wimpy Kid or

Dork Diaries?  “Oh, hey.” Didn't see you there.  We were wondering  about how the librarian or Mrs. Bracken keeps the library clean, and what she loves about her job.  

    First ,we asked her if she enjoys putting books away. She said no because it's never-ending, and there is never enough time, but she has help from 4th and 5th grade students.

      Then, we asked her what is Your favorite part about your job. She said getting to see all of the kids in school and reading to them.

   Next ,we ask her how long has she been working. She said she has been working for 20 years .

   Finally, we asked her what inspired her to work at Village. She ,said she heard it was the best school in Georgetown so she just had to work here!!!!!

About the Princess

The princess is our principal, Mrs. Barker.  She is the best principal we could ever ask for. We chose to interview Mrs. Barker because she is the one who always helps all the teachers and students.

Q- How did you feel when you became principal?

A- I was very excited because I heard very good things about Village Elementary.                     

Q- How many kids come to your office?

A-Announcement kids = 3 new kids once every week.  

Q- How many years have you been working at Village, How many schools have you worked at?

  A- 8 years at Village as Principal, assistant Principal, Carver, Pickett, Ford, Mitchell, Jack Frost Elementary- Oaks Elementary- Humble 5th grade, Timmerman Elementary, Pflugerville- 2nd grade, pre-school at Hyde Park Baptist.

Q- What do you do in your free time?

    A- I love to read and take photographs and play games with my 3 grand-babies and we go to the movies.      

Q- Were you overwhelmed when you became Principal?     

     A- No, because all the teachers were very helpful and we learned together.

 

Q- Favorite Things About Work

• Seeing kids learn and having fun with learning
• I Love all the special events like Texas Day, Plays, MARE, parties, Science Day,etc.                                       

       To summarize, we learned so much about Mrs. Barker. We learned that she taught 5th grade and 2nd grade and so many more. She does so many things in her daily life and she spend time with her grand-babies. We hope that you enjoyed this.

  Do you like Science?  The science fair is coming for 2017 on Friday the 17th of February at Village Elementary.  Judges come  from Dell Computers to grade the 5th graders.   All of the 5th graders have to do the Science Fair.   PreK, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th have a choice to do the Science Fair.  Since its so fun almost everyone does the Science Fair. Here are some experiments from 5th graders that already have been done “ How to keep apples from turning brown”, “ Which batteries work better on flash lights?”,   “How much sugar is in drinks” and “Sand vs Salt”.  Come up with your own and make it POP OUT!!!

Apple ~vs~ Android

We asked 3rd to 5th grade students (the ones with the most devices)  what their opinion about the two devices are.        

5th Grade: Apple, 22 Android, 6

4th Grade: Apple, 14 Android, 3

3rd Grade: Apple, 18 Android, 4

5th grade thought Apple was better because it was easier to use and that it was less complicated. Some people said that it reminded them of apples. Ashlyn and I thought Apple was better because it was easier to use and Android was confusing.

               Water bottle flip

“Thump,Thump,Thump” That's the sound when a bottle hits a desk. Students love flipping a bottle to try to land it. The kids love it, but what is the teachers take on the water bottle flip? Let's see what some teachers at Village have to say. “It is an awesome hand eye coordination skill” Mrs Knudsen states. Ms. Decker says  “It is the most annoying thing in the world along with noisy, distracting, and pointless”. Mrs Harrison states “It's cool. I might try it myself and it shows talent”. Mrs Sepulvado (the assistant principal)says” annoying and distracting”. That wraps it up for the Village Sting.  We found out teachers do not like it, but students do. Daddy Daughter Dance

The Daddy Daughter Dance is a fun way to have fun with dads, grandpas,and uncles. They have snacks, drinks,and songs. Feel free to dress to impress with the theme of Boots and Bling. It is Country themed you can wear boots, your cowgirl hats, and beautiful dresses. This is sponsored by the PTA. Only $10.00 for each person and it is $15.00 at the door. It'll be held Feb 9th from 6:00 to 8:00.

       

     

Fitbit Trends

Do fitbits make you more active? This is a question we would like to know. So, we went to Mrs.Rogers for answers, and this is what she replied with…...

Q~ Why did you get a fitbit?

A~ I’ve always been an athletic person and since my son Grant got one I suddenly got interested.

Q~ Do you feel more active wearing a fitbit?

A~ Most of the time I do.

Q~ How long have you had your fitbit?

A~ I got my  second fitbit  in March.

Q~ What kind of fitbit did you get and why?

A~ For my second fitbit I got the most expensive one that was better quality.

Q~ How long are you wearing your fitbit?

A~ Every single day

Q~ Scientists say fitbits don’t make you healthier, do you agree with that? Yes or no and why?

A~ Yes/no because it reminds you to move.

Q~ Does your fitbit encourage you?

A~ Yes.

Q~ Do you have any complaints?

A~Yes it makes me mad when I don't get enough steps, because it makes me feel extremley  lazy.

Q-Do you like to compete with other people in your classroom?

A-Yes      

Q-Would you want to get a different fitbit?

A-Yes, but only if I break it or lose it.

Overall, we learned fitbits don't make you more active, it just encourages you to be more active. Bring Your Device to School

Hey, there has been a new change here at Village.

We can bring our electronics now! Personally, I think it is a good change. It’s a good change because the school doesn’t have to spend as much money because kids can bring their own device. Now the school can spend more money on more important things like,  more gym equipment, library books, and textbooks! Also kids are really excited about it. I know I am excited about it!

Get to know Mrs.Brown

We wanted to tell about our favorite teacher, Mrs.Brown.  She is an interesting person that Village Elementary loves :) :)

ALL: Why did you want to be an ART teacher?

Mrs.Brown:I wanted to be a math teacher but I was majoring in ART.

Brianna: What do you love about ART?

Mrs.Brown: I like ART  because I like playing with the clay, you can get messy, and it is relaxing.

Ashley: What is your favorite project?  Why? Mrs.Brown: My favorite project is clay because kids enjoy playing with clay and making projects with clay.

Caleigh: What is the best grade to teach? Why?

Mrs.Brown: 3rd grade because they want to do everything and they can do the projects on their own.

Brianna:  Were you scared on your first day of work? Why?

Mrs.Brown: I was not scared on my first day, I was mainly scared of my son’s  first day of school.

Caleigh:Did you like having extra help?Why?

Mrs.Brown: I liked having extra help because I liked working with someone who knows how to do ART.  I had help because Ms.Girly wanted to be an art teacher and I was training her to be one.
