Which Fry??
By Celeste R. & Gracie S.
We did this Survey because we wanted to know about all the kids’ favorite French fry.
This is a graph showing the percentage of the votes of fries. We asked 5th graders at Village Elementary which one they liked the most.  The majority voted for Chick-fil-A!

Twix  vs.  Snickers
By: Dave Entrekin
In the fierce battle between Twix and Snickers … SNICKERS HAS WON!  The amazing candy bar, Snickers, has won the battle 12 to 6.  I surveyed 18 fifth grade students and 12 of them chose Snickers and 6 chose Twix.  They are both excellent candy bars, but in the end more people like Snickers than Twix. When you come to think of it, both companies are very very successful even  though some may like one better than the other.  In the end, I think just as many people like twix as Snickers.  Twix consists of chocolate, caramel, and really hard nougat.  Snickers consists of chocolate, caramel, peanuts, and nougat.

NBA Playoff Picture

The Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to defend another NBA title this year. But so far that’s not working out for them with a lot of teams ahead of them in the standings. The teams are the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, and the Houston Rockets. There's a new power house, the Celtics. The Celtics are better than usual, and are currently in 2nd place in the Eastern Conference. In the offseason previous MVP Kevin Durant left OKC to go to the Golden State Warriors. But since Kevin Durant left OKC, Russell Westbrook has been doing fantastic, and leads the league in triple-doubles. Durant has been helping the Warriors have another great season with a great record. For OKC the playoff picture is looking pretty good just like the Warriors. For teams like the Bulls, the Pistons, the Heat, the Mavericks, the Nuggets, and the Trail Blazers are fighting for the playoffs. The favorites to win the NBA finals are either the Cavs. or the Warriors once again. But the Los Angeles Clippers and the and the San Antonio Spurs are sitting right behind them. The Spurs have MVP candidate Kawhi Leonard one of the power houses of the league, and averaging 26 points per game. Kawhi Leonard is helping the Spurs moving there way up to the top of the Western Conference, and the Spurs already clinched a playoff berth. The Miami Heat are fighting there way to the playoffs with the Bulls standing right behind them. Last year future hall of famer Dwyane Wade left the Miami Heat and went to the Bulls. The Bulls have a shot at the playoffs for the first time in years. The Rockets have been better than usual this year, with James Harden getting a lot of triple doubles. The Rockets are currently in the west, and have clinched  a playoff spot. The Utah Jazz haven’t been good in a while, and the road ahead looks pretty good for the Utah Jazz getting into the playoffs. The NBA playoffs start on Saturday, April 15th.  In your spare time we recommend watching some NBA playoffs!

UIL EVENTS
By: Dave Entrekin

There are 7 UIL events in elementary school.  UIL helps kids do extra curricular activities  and then compete with the skills they learned.  Eventually in January, elementary schools go East View High School to compete against the other kids in the district.  I think this is good for the students learning good sportsmanship.  I also think that this helps the students do better in school.   Unfortunately there are only academic UIL, and no athletic UIL events.   But in middle school and high school you get more options  for UIL events.   As somebody who is in UIL,I really think it helps kids do better in school.  I think it should be required by school to have students that are old enough to do extra curricular activities.  While I have been in UIL I have participated in chess and spelling. I have enjoyed both of these events and plan on doing them in the future years.  In conclusion, I urge all 3rd graders, 4th graders, and 5th graders to do a UIL  event.   I also urge the second graders who are going into 3rd grade. To all who are doing UIL right now, congratulations.

Village Food Critic
(All pizza will be cheese for no reason)
By: Ryder Case

Pizza is good pizza is yummy I want pizza in my tummy. And I also want to critique it. I went to three pizza places and eating their cheese pizza.
The first place I went to was “Fire and Ice Pizza”. Their pizza has more cheese than sauce, so if you like the cheese more, then I might recommend it. The pizza has thin crunchy crust, and in my opinion is best when hot.
The second pizza place is called “600 Degrees”. They have about an equal amount of sauce, and you can choose between deep dish, and thin crust. When you get the pizza, it is usually very hot, so I wait for it to cool off.
The last pizza place is “Double Dave’s”. “Double Dave's” is a place where on certain days you can get the buffet or just order a pizza, and they will bring it to you. Similar to “600 Degrees” you can choose between deep dish or thin crust. “Double Dave’s” has a little more sauce than cheese and has soft crust. At the buffet, you can ask for any pizza, and they will bring it out hot and ready.
All in all, my favorite place is “Double Dave’s” because of the pizza and the service. I like the sauce more and the choice of crust. Close behind was “600 Degrees”. The balance of sauce and cheese and sauce is good, but I don’t like the crust as much. My least favorite out of the three is “Fire and Ice”. It is good in all, but I personally don’t like thin crust. I like all of these places but “Double Dave’s” is my favorite. What’s yours?  Comment below!

Pokemon Go
By:
Kate Smith and edited By Ava Lester
 Gotta’ catch them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you think Pokemon Go is dangerous? Yes or No? To me I think it really depends on if you pay attention to what is around you. I asked most of the fifth graders their opinion to find out if they concur or not.

NOT SAFE!!              29

To conclude, I learned that most fifth graders think that Pokemon Go is not safe. My advice to all the Pokemon Go players watch your surroundings while you play Pokemon Go.

            Chips Ahoy vs Oreos
By Ashley R., Caleigh W., & Brianna L.

We asked 5th graders and some teachers if they liked Chips Ahoy or Oreo's better. So as you can see,  Oreo's were more popular than Chips Ahoy by 1 vote. We guess that milk’s favorite cookie, Oreo's, people seem to find irresistible. We could all  call this one close but it all came down to Oreo's winning.

March Madness
By: Noah B. Alex M. and Jack K.

March Madness is a big college basketball tournament where the top 64 basketball teams in the country go up against each other to see who's the best. Last year Villanova won the tournament with a epic buzzer beater to win. The tournament (March Madness) starts on Tuesday, March 14th.  At the beginning of the basketball season, the Duke Blue Devils were the favorites to win it all, but not anymore. According to our group Kentucky and Gonzaga are the favorites to win March Madness. March Madness is to divided into 4 groups of 16. The #1 seed plays #16 seed, and the #16 seed has never beat the #1 seed before. This year I’m hoping for an upset. When your bored at home, just sit down and watch some March Madness basketball.

Harry Potter House Quiz
By: Dennie Decker ( President Decker )
The Harry Potter series has been very popular in the 5th grade.  If you’ve read the Harry Potter books, you know there are 4 houses.   Ever wondered how many fifth graders are in each house? Well, now you can know.   I surveyed all fifth graders with a surprisingly accurate Harry Potter test.   I told all fifth graders it was a personality test, so those who had read the books couldn’t answer off knowledge of the books.
How cool! It appears most fifth graders are Gryffindor. In Harry Potter, Gryffindors are described as brave and courageous, but be careful: Gryffindors are known to lose their temper. So there you have it!

Changing Schools
by:Brooke Locklin

Changing schools can be scary, but it can also be exciting. I will be moving to Dallas in three days. I’m not scared because I have changed schools once. But, I will miss all the friends I have made here at Village Elementary. That is normal to miss your friends.  I was nervous when I changed schools from Cooper Elementary to Village Elementary, because it was the first time I changed schools. I enjoyed Village Elementary and my experiences there.  If I had to give advice to someone switching schools, I would tell them “Treat others the way you want to be treated.”
I want to say goodbye to 8 of my friends at Village Ximena, Shailey, Kate, Marissa, Kaylia, Ava, Bailey, and Ashlyn.

Favorite Part by:
Dave Entrekin and Aaron Guzman

I was wondering one day what a teacher’s favorite part of their job is.  So, I went around the school asking what their favorite part was.In the end this is what I got.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of being a teacher is seeing my students enthusiastic about learning. That enthusiasm helps them become better readers, writers, scientists, and mathematicians. That is exciting! - Mrs. McAnn

My favorite part of being a teacher is the kids.  I love my students.  I love talking to them and laughing with them.  I get so excited when  my students realize they actually love reading a great  book.  My most favorite thing is when we read an awesome book together in class and we get to laugh and cry.  That is the real sign of an amazing book experience...laughter and tears.  - Mrs. Glenn

My favorite part of my job is watching my students grow throughout the year. I love looking back on all the hard work and progress that they/we’ve made during the year.  As a first grade teacher most students come into my classroom as non readers and by the end of the year they are readers.  I have a great love of books and reading and my goal every year is to pass along that passion to my students. Watching this melts my heart!
-Ms. Decker

My favorite part of teaching is forming relationships with my students which in turn they feel comfortable taking risks in their learning.  Seeing smiles on faces and seeing the kids take ownership in their own learning is amazing.   As a writing teacher, I find it exciting to see the growth in the kids writing from August to May.    Mrs. Miller

Most of the answers went along the lines of,enjoying being with the kids.  Some of the answers said that they enjoy watching the kids learn throughout the year.  As you can see, the teachers  love spending time with the students even if they are strict (that was meant for students

Interview With Beau Corrales

Written by Alex M. Interviewed by Noah B.
Crew: Alex M., Patrick R., Jack K.,Noah B.

20170216_150852-COLLAGE.jpgMeet Beau Corrales.  Beau Corrales is a Georgetown High School football player who is an alumni of Village Elementary. He is planning to go to North Carolina where he will play college football.
A word for word Q & A with Beau Corrales
  1. Why did you choose to go to North Carolina?

Answer: I just really liked the coaches there whenever I went on my visit. I like the campus there and so I feel like I’m gonna be able to get a good college education

  2. What inspired you to play football?

Answer: Um, probably my dad and older brother; they both played football. Growing up just watching them play football as a little kid kind of inspired me to be able to play football.

 3. At North Carolina do you expect to play immediately or later in your college football career?

Answer: They were kind of leaving that decision up to me. So, like,
if I can get there quick and learn the offence pretty well then, I’ll be able to play as a freshman and get to play right away but, like I said that depends on how well I can learn everything.

 4. At North Carolina have you considered trying out for the basketball team?

Answer: It has been in some thoughts but I think that I’m just going to stick to football because of how much time it takes and because of the role I’m trying to fill in just as that quickly as a freshman.

  5. Is it your goal to play in the NFL?

Answer: Yes it is. I’m playing at that level, that college football, I mean it’s so much time and so much work, so I mean I feel like if you're playing at that level and not trying to get to the NFL I don’t know why you are.

  6. What made you want to play football instead of basketball?

Answer: Honestly I love both, and my older brother, he ended up quitting football and stuck to basketball, but for me it’s just the hype that comes with football.  I just love the energy and the fans that just enjoy cheering on football players and stuff.   I just love that energy.

7.What are you going to major in college?

Answer: I haven't decided yet but I think that I’m either going to major in business or I’m going to get a visual media major.

  8. What team do you admire and want to go to in the NFL?

Answer: I’m pretty sure it’s either the Los Angeles Chargers, or the Dallas Cowboys.

9.What athlete did you look up to when you were young?

Answer: He was a running back for the chargers, his name was LaDainian Tomlinson,  I’m not sure if you know who he is but he went to TCU and then went to San Diego.

 10. How do you feel about the football players at North Carolina?

Answer: I like them a lot. Whenever I was on my visit I got to hang out with them and got to watch them work out and stuff and so, th`ey all seem like great guys so I’m excited to hang out with them and just be friends with them

  11. When you were in elementary school did you and your friend’s like to play football?

Answer: Yes, all the time. We actually used to play over on the field in between the soccer goals.  We used to play football like every day during recess.

   12. What do you like to do in your free time?

Answer: Right now, honestly, I haven’t had too much free time.  But, I guess just work out, and whenever I get the time, play video games.

   13. What was it like when you were student council president at Village Elementary?

20170216_150911.jpg
Interviewing Beau
Answer: It was fun.  That was probably one of the biggest achievements when I was in elementary school was becoming student council president. It was just a really big accomplishment to me.

14. Oh yeah, last question can we have your autograph?
